Imagine reaching the age 100. Not only 100 happy days, but 100 happy years. It would be insane. Wow, for that to happen you would've had to been born in 1914. You would've gone through war's, inventions, technology advances, pollution, terrorism, school, university, having a job, development in society, love, having a family, and many more obstacles. And after all this time and obstacles, you're still alive? You're a survivor.
My great grandmother's name is Malka Bronstein. She is one of the bravest people I know. Memories with her vary. From the time she told our house keeper that she would steal the love of her granddaughter's from her. To the time where I found out that she would save her money inside her bra for "safe keeping". Today, she reached the age of 100, and never could I be prouder of her.
Malka was born on September 28, 1914. She was a happy girl and would enjoy food, a lot. Later on, she married my great-grandfather Jaim Ivcher. They had two children, Menachem and Baruch Ivcher. Two brother's who are so alike. They both share the same awkward sense of humor; they have a very similar voice too, and when you look at both of their faces you get confused between who is who. The only difference that I see between them is that Baruch, my grandfather, is taller then his brother Menachem. They grew up in Israel, in a city called Hadera. Later on, Baruch moved to Peru and Menachem started exploring the Dominican Republic and USA finding different ways in which he could start a business.
With their lives going on, before they knew it, Baruch was already married with 4 daughters and Menachem was married too, with 1 daughter. The cousins got together perfectly. They would care for each other, and they were always united which is a vital characteristic in families. My mom would always talk to me about how her and her cousin were inseparable and even until now, whenever they see each other they talk until words can't come out of their mouth's anymore. They always care for each other, which is the same feeling that I feel with my cousins. Both my mom and her cousin have 4 children with similar ages. My 15 year old cousin and I are inseparable when I visit him. We are always together and even if we only see each other once a year, when we do it's like we'd seen each other yesterday.
Today at my great grandmother's birthday I felt so fortunate for the amazing family she gave me. I can not believe she reached the age of 100. 100 years old, it shocks me. Most of my family came to visit her on this very special day, and we were all together to watch her blow her 100 candles (with a little help). She's 100, the words could not even come out of my mouth when I told my friends about it.
Safta, to you whom have always been there for me. I regret not visiting you the amount of times that I should, but that won't happen anymore. I know that visiting you is the best thing in the world. I love how every night you sleep with the Snoopy stuffed animal that I gave to you when I was 6 years old. Whenever I visit you, I see you constantly with a smile on your face, clapping, and singing children songs in hebrew. You really know how to enjoy the moment, when I saw you today, surrounded by those who loved you, and tears of joy started rolling down your eyes, I realized how happy you were. How simple things, are those who can endure and help build up a persons happiness. May these 100 years only be the start of your life, and may happiness and health surround you.
Living 100 years, may seem as a shock to some. But Malka Bronstein made it, and her friends, family, and loved ones could not be any happier.
